Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has picked educationist Ahmed Abdikadir Nunow as his running mate as he seeks to defend his seat in the upcoming polls.

Nunow, a career teacher for the past ten years was named Governor’s Abdullahi’s preferred running mate and the future Deputy Governor in case they win the elections.

Nunow who hails from the Wagle sub-clan of the Arjuran clan in Wajir North was selected after consultations with various groups in the county.

The 32-year-old teacher was endorsed by the clan after Incumbent Deputy Governor Abdihafid Yarrow announced recently that he would not support Mr Abdullahi's re-election bid.

”Allow me with utmost humility to announce to you all that after wide and thorough consultations with various groups among the larger Wajir that I have picked Hon. Mwalimu Ahmed Abdikadir Nunow as my running mate for the August 2017 Wajir County gubernatorial contest,” said the governor on his official Facebook page.

“I can now concentrate on my campaign. I am confident residents will give me another chance to lead them having seen my work in the last four years,” governor Abdullahi added.

A former ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Mohamed picked Mr Yarrow who fell out with the governor as his deputy as he seeks the county's top seat.
