Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has pledged to ensure residents have access to clean drinking water.
Speaking to journalists after touring Masinga Ward on Wednesday, Mutua said that his government has set aside enough money to dig boreholes across the county.
He observed that the boreholes will help residents’ access drinking and consumption water both for themselves and their domestic animals.
“My government has set aside enough money together with other measures meant to ensure Machakos people have access to clean water,” said Mutua.
The county boss stated that locals have suffered for a long time and that time has come for them to enjoy the fruits of devolution.
He said that though the area often experiences drought, mitigative measures have be initiated to ensure accessibility of water and other basic needs.
The governor also announced that they are working with local and foreign investors to drill dams that will provide water for irrigation.
He stated that perennial food shortage in some parts of the county will be a thing of the past as farmers will be encouraged to irrigate their crops.
“Plans are at an advanced stage to have at least five dams constructed in Machakos County,” added the Governor.
Mutua also revealed that residents would be supplied with plastic water tanks to encourage them on water harnessing especially during rains, adding that tanks will help them conserve water for future use and help curb shortages the county experiences.
The Governor at the same time called on Machakos people to support his development agenda saying he is keen to fulfill the promises he made to the people in the run to last years’ general election.
