Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi has said that government will prioritize livestock farming. He has assured the residents of his county that he will take advantage of his close contact with the Saudi Arabia to find a market for their products.
Abdi, who was elected on Jubilee ticket, promised to change the lives of the residents in the next five years of his governance.
The governor, a former envoy to Saudi Arabia, was speaking in Wajir town on Sunday, where he reiterated on the importance of livestock farming as the main source of livelihood for the residents, adding that he is committed to ensuring that their living standards are improved.
“It is no secret that livestock is the lifeline of our people. I will ensure our people benefit from value addition," Abdi said, as quoted by Star.
The county boss also revealed that there are plans of commercializing livestock farming in the region to ensure that farmers reap more benefits than they are doing at the moment in the coming years under his governance.,
“Devolution has no meaning if development is not felt at the grassroots by the common mwananchi,” he added.
The residents have hailed the county government for providing them with water for their livestock and home use.
