The officers were patrolling the highway when they encountered the men who had hijacked a lorry belonging to Menengai Oil Refineries.

Mbugua said armed thugs have been terrorising residents in Molo and Nakuru town adding that the recovery of the firearms was a big success in the war against organised criminals in Nakuru County.

The governor urged residents to fully support the Nyumba Kumi Initiative and the police with vital information to help nab the gunmen who escaped with gunshot wounds.

He said increased criminal activities scare away investors and called on stakeholders to support community policing.

Molo traders association chairman Charles Muraya said the gunmen had created terror in Molo forcing traders to shut their business early to avoid being attacked.

“As we head to the festive season, I want to commend the administration police for enhancing patrol in the town and on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway. We are confident that criminal activities and use of arms will drastically reduce,” he said.
