Residents whose land was acquired for the Sh220 million Lamucounty headquarters in Mokowe will be compensated, Lamu governor Fahim Twaha has said.
The devolved unit has moved its headquarters from the island to Mokowe, and Twaha has said his administration will ensure the affected villagers get compensation adequately in order for them to get alternative land for settlement.
"Plan are underway to compensate land owners who were displaced so that they fully get settled and carry on their daily activities," he said.
He accused former governor Issa Timamy for ignoring to compensate the affected residents.
Timamy rejected the compensation call since the 22 acre land had already been set aside for the headquarters by the defunct municipal council.
Timamy said he will only pay for crops and trees uprooted from the land.
