County governments in the Rift Valley Region are committed to ensure successful healthcare system, Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said.
In a speech read on his behalf by his Deputy Joseph Ruto during the official opening of the Rift Valley Region Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) stakeholders forum today, Kinuthia noted that the leadership in counties understand the nature and implications of change and at the same have the zeal to develop effective strategies that account for change in the sector.
He said that counties will continued to partner with likeminded organisations like Kemsa to deliver top quality and affordable health services to the citizens that will optimize public health outcomes.
Mbugua lauded Kemsa for embracing devolution and adopting a new business model that partner with the counties in the management of medical supplies.
In the last quarter, Nakuru County Government purchased from Kemsa medical supplies worth sh 245 million followed by Baringo County that has purchases wares worth 145 million shillings.
Kinuthia said that devolution of health care services is a journey towards more perfect system and through effective collaboration; it is meant to succeed with the existence of an enabling environment.
The two-day forum aims to among others, strengthen relationship between Kemsa and the counties, encourage exchange of views on ways in which further improvements can be made on medical commodities management and build capacity on laboratory commodities management.
