Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has challenged locals to treat people living with disability with high dignity and respect for they are not any lesser human beings.
Speaking at the Garissa School for the Deaf on Thursday, Jama stated that people living with disabilities should be given the much-needed attention so that they may feel accepted and appreciated.
"Stigma against these people living with disabilities in Northeastern remains very high, with most parents resorting to hiding their children from the public by keeping them indoors," Jama noted with concern.
"When disabled people are discriminated solely on the basis of their physical configuration and even shunned, they feel unwanted. Our societies have never fully embraced people living with deformities. They are just human beings like any other. It is God who created as they are," added Jama.
He further noted that his government would allocate more funds for such people, so as they may feel the touch of care and love.
