Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has publicised names of directors of five Nairobi-based companies said to have collaborated with his county officials to swindle at least Sh51 million from Kilifi's bank account.
The Kilifi government has been hard-hit by a shocking scandal that has seen the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) liaise with the Banking Fraud Unit to probe the theft which initially revealed only a Sh30 million theft.
Led by Speaker Jimmy Kahindi, Kilifi’s county assembly has formed a special taskforce to investigate the scandal and top officials have already been summoned for grilling.
“We urge IFMIS department, EACC, CID and Anti Bank Fraud Unit of the Central Bank of Kenya to speed up the investigation and arrest the culprits and bring them to full force of law,” Kingi said.
“These five companies as per the preliminary investigations did not supply anything to the county government,” he said adding that “I will not hesitate to name the companies who stole taxpayers’ money,” he added.
