Speaking on Sunday at Abakore, Wajir South constituency, The county boss asked the electoral body to show the electorate paper manifestos of different candidates in order for them to understand what they expect from their leaders before heading to the polls.

“The manifests of the governorship ballot papers must be made public, complete with serial [numbers] of the booklets to preclude the possibility of illegitimate ballot papers,” he said, as quoted by the Star.

The outspoken governor argued that the commission must account for the ballot papers if at all it wants Kenyans to have trust that it will ensure polls are not only credible but also peaceful when that time comes.

“We want to participate in an exercise that will be fair to all. The IEBC must not only be independent but be seen to be independent. The fate of this county and country at large is in its hands,” he said. The remarks of the governor come at a time when the commission has maintained that elections will be held on August 8.
