Nyamira county governor has raised an alarm over the rate at which cases of alcohol abuse among the youth in the county is growing. Governor John Nyagarama expressed concern over the increasing abuse of alcohol and drugs among the youth noting that it has greatly affected the development. Speaking to the media in Nyamira town, Nyagarama said that excessive drinking and abuse of other drugs has adversely affected the development and has also led to the breaking of many families in the county. “Alcohol consumption is one of the vices that my government is strongly fighting against because it has destroyed our able youth who are jobless. It has also led to many families breaking and also the death of promising young people something that hinders development. We need these young people in our workforce,” he said. The governor called on the Nyamira residents to join the fight against the vice instead of leaving the task to the county government alone. He also vowed to ensure all measures are put in place to save the future generations from the two vices. “We shall ensure as a government that we put up measures to help save the future generation from perishing,” said Nyagarama.
