President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid could be in jeopardy as a result of voter apathy in his strongholds.
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has raised concerns over laxity by Mount Kenya region voters in backing Uhuru as witnessed in the August 8 elections.
"More than one million did not vote for the President in last month poll. Most people assumed Uhuru would win and therefore did not turn up to vote. If this trend continues during the fresh election, Uhuru might suffer a setback on October 26," Njuki said.
The governor was speaking during a Sunday service at Jerusha Kanyua PCEA in Ndagani.
The county boss urged women in the region to use their convincing power to drum up support for Uhuru's re-election.
"If Mount Kenya region votes for the President as a bloc, they are assured of his victory in October 26 repeat presidential election," Njuki said, as quoted by The Standard.
