Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has reignited his fierce rivalry with Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2017 gubernatorial contest after he labelled his main challenger and Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso a ‘Jubilee project’ and a ‘political featherweight’.
Laboso is expected to be the Jubilee Party's flag bearer in the 2017 gubernatorial contest to face off with the Mashinani Party leader.
Speaking on Wednesday at Chepilat during a peacekeeping meeting between Gusii and Kipsigis communities, Ruto warned the Deputy President against ‘meddling’ in South Rift region political affairs.
“I don’t fear anyone and I want to tell Laboso that I am ready for her. She is a Jubilee project and I challenge her to stop hiding in Jubilee and face me. Bomet and South Rift cannot be held in a political jail by a few individuals,” he said.
“The DP should concentrate on his position and leave Bomet politics for its people. I have been working and I know voters will give me a second term. I will not join Jubilee because I am not a defendant of impunity,” he said.
He urged police to beef up security in the region to prevent the rampant cattle rustling that has affected the relationship between the two communities.
“As we work with the locals to curb this primitive act, it’s important that the police also do their work by increasing surveillance within the border,” he said.
