Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto has named IDP camps occupied by Itare Dam project evictees after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

Close to 1,278 families were left homeless after the government evicted them but subsequently failed to resettle them as part of the agreement.

And the Chama Cha Mashinani leader accused Jubilee government of abandoning the families during his one day tour in the Mau region on Thursday.

“They have accused before Raila Odinga of evicting people from Mau but they are worse. I want you to call these camps William and Uhuru camp,” he said after donating food stuffs to victims.

He added: “It is wrong to start a project and fail to consult locals. This is an abuse of human rights which cannot be taken for granted as they think.”

Earlier this year, the Sh34 billion Dam had sparked heated debate between the government and opposition with Odinga claiming that the project could lead to desertification of several South Rift and Nynza region.

In his quest to wrestle Jubilee out of Rift Valley, Governor Rutto, who was elevated to opposition outfit NASA fifth principal, is leading campaigns in the region.
