Sotik MP Joyce Laboso has dismissed Bomet governor Isaac Rutto's presence in Opposition alliance NASA, terming it "inconsequential."
In an opinion editorial published with the Star Newspaper on Thursday, the National Assembly Deputy Speaker opined that the South Rift region that governor Rutto is expected to galvanize in favour of NASA is firmly in Jubilee Party, maintaining that the Opposition cannot make any significant inroads into the vote-rich region.
"NASA is deluding itself that it has any voters in Governor Isaac Rutto’s Bomet county. The region and most parts of Rift Valley believe in Jubilee leadership. There is little or no chance the opposition will make inroads," Laboso quipped.
"I reiterate Bomet remains firmly in the Jubilee Party, despite Rutto’s move to join NASA," she added.
Laboso further noted that the Rift Valley region is in full support of Deputy President William Ruto, adding that the region will vote overwhelmingly for President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August polls.
"DP Ruto has the respect and legitimacy to continue leading the region to harness the development spirit of our people. We will continue to support him and President Kenyatta in the August election and beyond," she said.
Governor Rutto joined the Opposition fold earlier in the week, and is expected to be unveiled officially on Thursday during a NASA meeting at the Bomas of Kenya.
He joins NASA as an equal partner.
