The newly signed MoU by opposition outfit NASA principals gives outspoken Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto two options should they form government in August.
Rutto, a chief critic of Jubilee government, joined NASA as fifth principal with his CCM party but will be facing Sotik MP Joyce Laboso in governorship position.
And should opposition win, Rutto would be at liberty to quit his governorship position in case he wins to take Deputy Premier Secretary, a position that will be created and will be in charge of governance.
Alternatively, Rutto would be required to appoint a member of his CCM party to take up the position in case he wins August elections.
But on Thursday, a confident Rutto maintained that he will appoint a member of his party to the lucrative position.
“These seats are within the confines of the constitution and I will appoint someone to take it as long as you are in my party,” he said.
The fifth principal who will also be NASA’s point man from Rift Valley added: “I will be running for my governorship seat and I am confident that I will win.”
Viewed as the biggest gamble in his life in the region perceived to be a Jubilee stronghold, Mr. Rutto is expected to face a mother of battles with Laboso.
In recent weeks, Mr. Ruto has questioned the performance of Jubilee government and has often launched scathing attack on Deputy President William Ruto.
