Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has sacked the County Secretary, John Mwaniki for expressing interest in the governorship seat.

Mwaniki was instructed to hand over the office to the director of Planning, Charles Nderitu, who held the position initially.

The Chief of staff and governor’s personal assistant, John Wambugu said Mwaniki was undermining the appointing authority and was sent home following residents’ outcry.

“It reached a point where the Governor had to act and asked the county public service board to investigate him,” Wambugu said.

Early this year, Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua sacked his chief of staff Raymond Komen after he showed interest in running for the governorship come 2017.

The sacked chief of staff, however, went to court whereby the court ruled that he be compensated Sh 2M.
