After months of being at loggerheads with his MCAs, Garissa Governor Nathif Adam Jama has made a concerted rapprochement with the legislators in what could be seen as a search for better working relations.

The two sides have reportedly accepted to resolve their long standing discontent about political and administrative issues that reached its peak in June this year, when the MCAs rejected the governor’s budgetary estimates for the 2016/17.

The County Assembly had discarded the executive's finance bills, which sought to underline the governor’s Sh7.9 billion annual budget, a factor that has gravely disrupted and paralyzed county operations.

“We have had divergences with the County Assembly in terms of interpretation of some of the budget lines, but for now I am happy the issues have finally been ironed out,” said Jama.

The imminence of a breakthrough on the unfolding was also announced by the Dadaab MCA Mohamed Abdi, who is an ally of Governor Jama.

Governor Jama apparently regretted that the discontent within the executive and the county assembly has derailed vital government operations.

However, he says the past is not as important as the future.

“With this issue now behind us, we are focusing on the delivery of quality services to our Garissa people,” he added.
