Announcing the decision, Ranguma appointed Dr Paul Omanga to head the task force that consists of other stakeholders in the rice and farming sector.

He said that the rice sector in the county has numerous challenges, adding that most farmers who rely on rice farming are suffering great losses.

Speaking at West Kano Irrigation scheme in Nyando, Ranguma said the task force will also involve the National Irrigation Board, Ministry of Agriculture, National Cereals and Produce Board, Department of cooperatives among others.

Kabonyo/ Kanyagwal Ward MCA Charles Aguko urged the Governor to strive and revive the rice sector in the area.

“Please Governor, this place is too big, over 2000 acres and it is being underutilized and something has to be done,” said Aguko.

Chairman of the Task Force Dr Paul Omanga said he will do all the best to ensure that rice farming is revived to the fullest.

“Most of these rice schemes are running at almost half the level of production, so I hope this task force which I lead will ensure this is reversed,” said Omanga.
