Nairobi county governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has revealed his next step the assembly rejected the choice of lawyer Miguna Miguna as the deputy governor.
Governor Sonko, has thereby accepted the decision by the assembly stating that he will pick another candidate.
"I hereby wish to accept the decision of the Nairobi County Assembly rejecting the nomination of Dr Miguna Miguna as my Deputy on the basis that he is a dual citizen. I shall present another qualified nominee to the County Assembly," he posted on Twitter.
This comes after assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi stated that on Tuesday said that the assembly was not in a position to debate the suitability of the nominee.
“Article 78 of the constitution provides that a person is not eligible for election or appointment to a state office unless the person is a citizen of Kenya. Further ,the said Article provides that a State Officer or a member of the defense forces shall not hold dual citizenship,” she said.
On May 16, he nominated the self-declared NRMKe General as his deputy sparking talk of how the endorsement will sail through amidst Miguna's citizenship row.
Sonko's nomination elicited mixed reactions with some quarters, especially those aligned to the ruling party, vowing to turn down Miguna's endorsement.
