Mandera Governor Ali Roba has dismissed claims that local residents have been colluding with terrorists to commit heinous acts in this part of the nation.
In an interactive series, Roba said that the locals have been supportive in the fight against the vice.
He further cited an incident in which local residents protected non-locals following a terrorist attack on a bus in Mandera.
He noted that the action showed that the people from this region care about nonlocals.
“I want to correct the perception that locals collude with terrorists and direct them to attack non-local residences. The opposite is true. During the bus attack, locals used their bodies as human shields to protect non-locals. There are many incidences of similar nature that many non-locals can attest to where the locals hide the non-locals in remote villages whenever info is received. This gesture shows Mandera people care,” he said.
The remarks come at a time when leaders and local residents have vowed to work together to ensure that there are no criminal activities being undertaken in the region.
Terror attacks have affected the economy of the region with residents fleeing to safe regions.
The teachers have also fled leaving children in a dilemma.
