Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos has suspended five officials for allegedly engaging in corruption leading to a loss of Sh14 million.
According to the governor Alex Tolgos the officials falsified payroll records.
“Early this year, we received a tip off of fraudulent activities at the county payroll office and secret investigations revealed this scandal. We immediately alerted police who arrested the payroll manager and arraigned him," he said in a statement.
“We cannot be among counties receiving the lowest allocations from the National Treasury and wasting it through corrupt practices.
“I wish to assure residents that we have since taken stringent measures to prevent any similar loss of public funds."
The action followed the suspension of a county payroll manager on February 15.
