The first-time governor said that the use of Maslaha, which is an alternative dispute and conflict resolution method, has greatly contributed to the increase in rape incidences across the North Eastern region in the recent past.

He said that the rape suspects need to face the law instead of being freed on an agreement basis.

He was speaking during a peace meeting attended by different parties

“I want all of us to agree that we will not allow the use of Maslaha in issues to deal with rape,” said the governor.

He also called upon security agencies to be vigilant following the rise in the cases of crime across the county.

The remarks of the county boss come days after a group of three unknown men gang raped a 15-year-old girl in Habaswein sub-county.

His remarks were reiterated by County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara who called upon local leaders and parents to support the county and national government in the fight against cases of rape in different parts of the nation.
