Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has launched a scathing attack against Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Jubilee’s gubernatorial aspirantSuleiman Shabhal for opposing the establishment of dry port in Naivasha.Mbugua argued that the two leaders are fighting to protect their selfish interests. The outspoken governor claimed the duo want to use the dry port issue to gain popularity ahead of the August polls. The Nakuru county boss said his government supports the establishment of the port since it will not only help the local population but all Kenyans once it is complete. “We fully support the move by the national government to open a dry port in Naivasha and this will surely see Naivasha and nearby towns develop,” he said.Mbugua said he has been defending his people and will not relent in his fight to transform their lives.“I have stood with residents of Naivasha and Mai Mahiu in particular whenever they are in serious need,” said the governor, as quoted by the Standard. Both Joho and Shabhal have argued that the establishment of a dry port in Naivasha will kill the economy of Mombasa. “We will not cease from opposing any move aimed at taking away port services from Mombasa to Naivasha,” said Joho at a past event. Shahbal reiterated Joho’s sentiments saying he does not support the establishment of the dry port.''I will not allow port operations to be taken to Naivasha. Not negotiable. Mombasa should and must remain the centre at all times,'' wrote Shahbal in a Facebook post.
