Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has ordered for the revival of the county garage at Wundanyi.Samboja, who was elected on a Wiper ticket, said the move is aimed at reducing the county’s expenses.The county boss expressed concern over the huge amount of money the county government uses to service its vehicles in Mombasa.The county government is forced to pay night out allowances to the drivers who take the vehicles to Mombasa for service, the Star has reported.“We intend to utilize minimal resources to refurbish the garage to ensure our county vehicles are not repaired in Mombasa anymore," said Samboja, as quoted by the daily. The county government has allocated Sh7.5 million for the renovation of the garage.Samboja also said that the revival of the garage will create employment opportunities for local mechanics in the county."We have young, energetic and qualified mechanics in this county who will repair and maintain County vehicles. We will need to take them through a fair vetting process to select one mechanic from every sub-county,” he added.The county boss ordered for the renovations to be done within 60 days.
