Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has launched the Kombani medically assisted therapy facility in a bid to rehabilitate youth engaging in drug abuse in the county. Speaking during the launch of the facility, Mvurya said his government is committed to fighting drug and substance abuse, Mediamaxnetwork has reported. The launch of the facility was attended by representatives from various organizations including USAID, UNODC, and NASCOP. The county boss who was re-elected on a Jubilee Party ticket downplayed allegations by a section of residents that the facility had not received certification. The unveiling of the facility comes at a time when the drug abuse menace in Coast counties including Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu, Tana River andTaita Taveta has been on the rise despite efforts by both the national and county governments to contain it.Incidences of youth meeting in strategic places to inject themselves with drugs immediately after undergoing medication have also become rampant. Parents and teachers in the region have also raised concern over the increased cases of children dropping out school to engage in drug and substance abuse.
