Nominated MCA Farida Salim who moved a motion in the county assembly on the mortality rate said there is lack of proper health facilities in the county adding that in every 1,000 births there are around 400 deaths.

She further noted that lack of knowledge among mothers has also led to infant mortality as mothers fail to take their children for immunisation.

Contributing to the motion, MCA Lydia Adhiambo said myths and misconception among some religious groups on immunisation should be demystified to avert the infant deaths.

Adhiambo said since health was devolved there is need for the county government to ensure every 35 wards have a fully-fledged maternity wing.

She says pregnant mothers should not deliver at home noting that the county government should now employ more health personnel to serve the people of Kisumu.

The MCAs resolved that the mortality deaths in the county must be reversed at all cost.
