Nakuru County assembly majority leader Waithuki Njane wants Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to sack county officials who allegedly harassed and assaulted a lawyer on Friday last week in Nakuru town.
Addressing reporters in Nakuru town on Saturday, Njane said the county askaris who were involved in the incident are known and the best thing the governor can do is to fire them for what he termed as gross misconduct.
Njane said that the actions of the said officials cannot be tolerated, adding that they should be punished to serve as an example.
“The governor must act and punish those askaris who assaulted lawyer [Fred] Nyagaka because they are well known," he said.
"We cannot tolerate the kind of actions we used to see in the municipal governments, people must understand that things have changed and we have laws governing us.”
He added: “Our governor must stop keeping quiet and speak about this issue because it is tarnishing the name of his government. If they can assault and harass a lawyer what will stop them from harassing an MCA the following day?”
Njane said that if the governor does not take action against the officials, he will ask the county assembly do it on his behalf.
Last week, lawyer Fred Nyagaka was allegedly assaulted by county officials and police officers as he left the Nakuru high court.
Nyagoka represented the hawkers association in the eviction case against the county government.
