Machakos County governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has been urged by Athi River Member of County Assembly to reinstate the environment cleaners, as the cleanliness condition of the towns in the county is deteriorating.
Speaking on Friday during a routine tour in Athi River, the area MCA Michael Mutua called upon the governor to consider returning the cleaners because the towns litter has started heaping everywhere.
“I want to urge Dr. Alfred Mutua our governor to reconsider the causal workers who collect litter around our towns after he relieved them off their duties after their strike,” said Mutua
Machakos County cleaners were sacked a month ago after they protested their over delayed payments.
According to the MCA, the strike was genuine as their payments had been delayed for more than three months, and the Supreme Kenyan constitution 2010 allows peaceful demonstration.
The residents and traders of Kangundo Constituency have been the latest affected, as they launched a complaint concerning neglected litter bins that have been left unattended for over three weeks.
The traders state that some bins are overflowing with litter outside business premises, which is a health hazard and has been keeping customers uncomfortable.
The residents have therefore called upon the department responsible for environment cleaning to ensure the bins are emptied and environment cleared urgently.
