Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has called upon Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to consider settling their disputes with the county government out of court. The county boss, who was elected on a Wiper ticket, asked the legislators not to engage the government in legal issues for the sake of the county’s economic development.According to The Star, the county government is involved in three court battles, including the 2014 attempted impeachment case at Nairobi High Court and the removal of CECs.Former majority leader Francis Mutuku and others also sued the county’s Finance CeC over a mortgage recovery dispute at the Makueni High Court.Speaking when he officially addressed the County Assembly on Tuesday, Kibwana said the legal battles were consuming county funds which can be used to initiate various projects."The people are aware of the dysfunctional government that they endured for years leading them to petition for its suspension,” he said, as quoted by Star.He further reminded the MCAs of the need to pursue alternative ways of settling their scores with the government other than seeking legal redress. "I call on the assembly leadership to review cases pitting the two arms of our government so that we work towards settling them out of court," he added. The Governor also asked the MCAs to play their roles diligently and with commitment during their five-year term.
