Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has called upon women in the county to bear more children in a bid to increase the population of the region.
Speaking during the official opening of the Mkunumbi and Sinambio dispensaries in Mpeketoni on Monday, Timamy said the government of Lamu has put in place measures to manage a large population.“The county has adequate resources and can manage a population more than what we have. People should give birth to more children so that we can grow our population. As we open these two dispensaries, we are urging women to come and deliver in these facilities since we have ensured all dispensaries have maternity wings,” said Timamy, as quoted by Baraka FM.He further promised to give Sh10, 000 to the first women who will deliver at the Mkunumbi and Sinambio dispensaries.“The first women to deliver in these new facilities will get a cash reward of Sh10, 000,” he added. He urged residents to support his re-election bid, arguing that his government has improved the health sector and initiated several other projects since taking over power. He said his government has plans of establishing over 20 dispensaries across the county, adding that they will be equipped with modern state of the art equipment.
