Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has snubbed his two 'United for Kiambu' co-principals in the nomination of his cabinet.David Kariuki Ngari alias Gakuyo and Acquiline Njoki were left out in the list of CEC nominees handed to the county assembly speaker Stephen Ndichu on Tuesday. However, John Mugwe, who was also part of the United for Kiambu outfit, was named Roads, Transport and Public Works Minister.Gakuyo, Njoki, Mugwe teamed up with Waititu and his deputy James Nyoro to oust former Governor William Kabogo. All the five leaders had declared an interest in the county's top seat. But speaking to Kameme FM on Wednesday morning, Gakuyo downplayed the move saying he will be the 'Chief Minister' in the Waititu's administration."I will be supervising all the CECs in the new government. I will also be the advisor to the Governor on economic and political affairs," Gakuyo said. The law does not provide for the position of Chief Minister in the structure of the devolved unit of government.Waititu sacked all the county's 10 CECs and replaced them with new ones.Among those nominated include; James Mitambo Maina– Lands and Housing, Michael Ndung’u Mutua– Education, Dr Isabel Nyambura Waiyaki– Trade and Tourism, David Kimani Kuria– Water and Natural Resources and Mary Wanjiku Kamau– Youth, Sports, ICT and Communication.Others are; Wilson Mburu Kang’ethe– Finance, Dr Joseph Ng’ang’a Murega– Health, Henry Gichuhi– Agriculture, and Dr Margaret Waithira Ruinge– Administration and Public Service.Ndichu said that the Committee on Appointments must commence public hearings any day from October 11, 2017, and table its report to the assembly for consideration not later than 31 October 2017.
