Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwa have supported the motion which was passed by Kiambu Assembly last week which states that Institution and industries in Kiambu County should employ 70% of Kiambu locals. According to the governor, this move should not be termed as tribal.  Speaking after a thanksgiving ceremony dedicated to one of the Member of County Assembly (MCAs), Governor Waititu said that a bill is already being prepared and it will be brought to the floor of the Kiambu assembly which he believes will be passed. 

“It is very important to be mindful of our own issues first before having to deal with other things. Even US president Tramp says “America First”. This should not be labeled as tribalism. As matter of fact, it is constitutionally in order,” said Waititu. The leader of majority Anthony Ikonya who was the mover of the motion said Members in the Assembly welcomed the motion saying it was timely and they are ready to pass it as a Bill whereby the Executive will enact it and implement  He further added that for all the jobs which will be created from the investors whom will be allocated opportunity by the county they will make sure they employ 70 % of the locals a move which he said is creating jobs for the youths.
