The national government has been asked to involve county governments in management of security in the country.
Speaking at Our Lady of Lordes Parish in Turbo constituency, Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago said that for proper management of security, counties must be involved.
He added that security is critical for any development, and that it must be taken with the seriousness it deserves.
“The county governments must be involved in the management of security in the country,” said the Governor.
Mandago noted that the security amendment Bill must be passed by Parliament to ensure safety of Kenyans, further urging the MPs to lobby and pass the Bill, saying that it will seal the porous boundaries that criminals and terrorists use.
Mandago lashed out at those opposing the Bill, saying they are the enemies of Kenyans. The Governor asked the MPs to make sure that activists and the opposition who are opposing the Bill are defeated.
Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said that security matters should not be negotiated upon. He stated that the government must take firm action against perpetrators of crime and terrorism.
Mbugua however maintained that county governments must be involved in security issues. He said that county governments have the machinery to help curb insecurity.
The Governor said that the security amendment Bill will help the country to address the insecurity threats being experienced in some parts of the county.
Various leaders including senators, Governors, MCAs and MPs who spoke at the event held at Turbo constituency asked the International Criminal Court (ICC) to withdraw the charges leveled against Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Arap Sang.
The leaders said that the withdrawal of charges against President Uhuru kenyatta would not deter or interfere with the relationships among Jubilee leaders.
