Speaking at Mkunguni Square on Tuesday, the governor urged the national government to reduce the number of roadblocks in a bid to reduce the time spent by travelers on the road.

The Lamu-Mombasa road has more than five roadblocks where travelers are expected to alight from vehicles and have their luggage inspected, before they can proceed with their journey.

The move is aimed at curbing increased cases of insecurity.

Timamy pointed out that most travelers arrive at their destinations late because of the presence of roadblocks along the road.

“Let them reduce them to one main roadblock which shall conduct thorough frisking of passengers coming and going out of Lamu so that we can save time,” said Timamy, as quoted by Baraka FM.

The national government has set up police checks in different parts of the road including Ndeu, Witu, Gamba Kibaoni and Minjila among others.
