The county government of Uasin Gishu will revoke licenses of all alcoholic joints that will be found selling illegal substances, Governor Jackson Mandago has warned.
Speaking in Eldoret on Monday, Mandago said his administration will not allow the county to be turned into a haven for banned substances.
The vocal governor insisted that all businesses licensed to sell alcoholic drinks must ensure they stock only legally accepted products.
He said the County Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board will be conducting impromptu operations across the county especially during this festive season.
"If somebody is licensed to sell alcohol, he/she must ensure that whatever is being sold to the public is approved by relevant authorities because those that will be found selling illicit liquor their licenses shall be revoked and the business closed down," Mandago said.
"We will not allow our county to be a dumping site," he added.
There have been concerns over increased illegal alcohol in Uasin Gishu county most of which is said to be from neighboring Uganda.
Recently governor Mandago claimed that Railway police were colluding with unscrupulous businesspersons by allowing them to transport the illicit liquor into the county using the trains.
