Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has warned legislators supporting Jubilee Party of failure in the August elections.
Oparanya claims Opposition supporters are not happy with the MPs, who have decided to back the re-election bid of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I’m asking the five MPs to carefully weigh the political mood in Kakamega and stop engaging in a gamble that will backfire after the August polls,” said the governor, as quoted by Nation.
The MPs from the Western region who have jumped ship to Jubilee are: Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Malulu Injendi (Malava), David Were (Matungu), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani) and Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo).
They have all said they cannot work with Opposition NASA.
Jubilee’s point man in the region Washiali said those supporting the opposition are wasting their time.
“Our decision to support Jubilee is not a gamble since we are confident President Uhuru Kenyatta will be re-elected easily,” he said.
MP Shinali, however, said he will work with NASA only if Musalia Mudavadi is named the flag bearer.
Former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito on Tuesday ditched the Jubilee Party and re-joined ODM.
He said he will vie for the parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket.
