Speaking at a public function in Kakamega, the governor admitted that his polygamous nature could not allow him to become a bishop but again denied claims that he is married to 10 women.

Oparanya stated that he only has two wives: Priscilla and Caroline.

He however warned women to stop parading themselves on the streets to capture his attention as he has no vacancy for a third wife.

"There is no vacancy for another wife. Some ladies parade themselves on the streets to tempt me, but that chapter is closed for me," Oparanya was quoted by the Nairobian.

The governor was also quick to dismiss the allegations that he is misusing public funds.

He said that it was propaganda being spread by his political rivals, adding that his wealth comes from the fact that he has invested widely since he was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2002.

"I am able to plan myself with the little I earn as my salary. If one cannot plan himself well, let him not mislead the public that I use public funds for my private life. I have been an MP for two terms and a minister and accumulated enough for my private life," added Oparanya who is also ODM Deputy Party leader.
