The Council's chairman Peter Munya said the government signed an illegal Collective Bargaining Agreement with the medics, and failed to implement it, causing the strike.

According to Munya, the CBA was signed in 2013 when Health was already devolved, and County governments were not consulted.

"Th national government signed the CBA in 2013, knowing well that Health was a devolved function. We were not consulted and so we never knew what was agreed. The current strike is resulted by the government,'' Munya said, Friday.

He expressed disappointment that doctors and nurses were asking for a pay hike, that governors had no clue about.

The Meru governor however expressed optimism of finding a solution to end the strike, but asked the government to always consult County governments before coming up with issues of national concern.

The strike kicked off December 5.
