Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has said the second Devolution Conference will talk of the milestones and challenges of devolved system of government.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting held today at Tom Mboya Labour College, Governor Ranguma said that it took him a long way to have Kisumu County host the conference.
"We have come a long way in securing this prestigious honour to host the second devolution conference. It took us time to convince other 46 counties and the National Government that we have the capacity and ability to host this conference," said Governor Ranguma.
He added: "I am happy I got the support that Kisumu is ripe to host the conference. You way also want to know that Kisumu hosted 4,000 people from the secretariat fraternity as well."
Ranguma said that despite the event being low key, it shows Kisumu has the capacity to host events.
He challenged county governments to embrace conference tourism which has an impact on the Kenyan economy.
"If we can host such conferences, then Kisumu has moved a notch higher and also geared up for tourism as we move forward into the future," said Governor Ranguma.
He added, "Though there are still facilities we require, this is the beginning and there are also interests we are developing to ensure that we have sufficient capacities to hold a conference like this."
