The Council of Governors (CoG) has registered its disappointment with the government following the withdrawal of the security detail of governors Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa) and Kilifi's Amason Kingi.
In a statement on Monday, CoG chair and Meru Governor Peter Munya said they will move to court to get the security detail of the two county bosses reinstated.
"Security cannot be a preserve of those who support the government of the day. It is a legal obligation on the part of the state to provide security to its citizens. We intend to challenge the unlawful decision in court," Munya said.
The government, through State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, has since dismissed reports that the withdrawal of the security detail is political, saying the move is part of "normal reorganisation of the regional command structure."
The government recalled bodyguards assigned to the two governors late last week, shortly after the two publicly dressed down President Uhuru Kenyatta over government projects in the Coastal region.
