The Council of governors (COG) has denied receiving any money to carter for the salaries of nurses, doctors and clinical officers for the 100 days they were on strike.

In a statement, the council on Tuesday blamed Health CS Cleopas Mailu of lying about the issue adding that the ministry has already paid the health workers under its docket leaving out health workers at the Counties.

"The Council of Governors seeks to know from the CS Health under what provisions of the law did the ministry purport to disburse the monies to the county governments without the Senate’s approval."

The Council claimed what was budgeted for the nurses, clinical officers and other health workers in the counties as allowances amounted to Sh1.6 billion and the doctors Sh1.5 billion.

"The Council of Governors urges the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health to make public the schedule of disbursements for each county government, dates and actual amounts disbursed as he has communicated to the media."

This comes after CS Mailu on Monday said the Treasury had released the money and disbursed to respective counties for payment.

COG however, refuted this claims saying the national government had committed to provide County governments with funds to pay for the increase allowances awarded to health personnel for six months starting January 2017 to June 2017.

The Council is now pleading with the Senate to reconsider convening urgently as a matter of national interest to approve the allocations.
