The Council of Governors has refuted claims by the Health CS Cleopa Mailu that the National Treasury disbursed funds to the counties meant for doctors, clinical officers and nurses increased allowances.
Speaking on Tuesday, CoG chair Peter Munya challenged Mailu to prove that counties received the said allocation, calling for the Senate's intervention on the matter.
“…make public the schedule of disbursement for each county, dates and actual amounts as he, Dr. Mailu, has communicated,” Munya said.
“The CoG appeals to the Senate to reconsider convening urgently as a matter of national interest to approve these allocations,” he added.
According to the Meru governor, the National government had committed to disburse the funds to the counties, but the Treasury has failed to effect the transfer.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses has since instructed its members to go on strike over the unpaid allowances.
