Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has cautioned that there is a big risk if incumbent governors lose party nominations ahead of the August polls.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, Wamatangi said that the losing governors will deliberately alter financial documents to avoid facing justice on misused public funds.
"These individuals will alter financial documents and will also loot from the public coffers for their personal gain," said Wamatangi.
The senator further called on National Assembly leaders to pass the Bill passed by the senator calling on all governors to provide a balance sheet of the county 90 days to elections.
Wamatangi believes this will help protect county resources and devolution in general.
"I call on the National Assembly leaders to pass the Assumption of the Office of the Governor 2016 Bill to help vet governors before August elections. This will ensure they provide the county's balance sheet and this will protect county resources and devolution as a whole," added Wamatangi.
