The Council of Governors (CoG) has told all nurses to go back to work, after their Union and national government officials called off the nationwide strike on Sunday.
CoG chairman Peter Munya in a statement said nurses who don’t report to work immediately will face dire consequences.
“The Council of Governors advises the Nurses that there shall be consequences for those who do not report to work with immediate effect as agreed upon,” said Munya on Monday.
Nurses and doctors begun the nationwide strike on December 5, after their 21-day strike notice expired.
The Labour Court on Tuesday ordered striking doctors and nurses to resume work immediately.
KMPDU Secretary General Ouma Oluga, however, urged members to defy the order until their demands are met.
The health workers are demanding pay rise and improved working conditions.
Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) Secretary General Seth Panyako disowned the call to end nurses’ strike by his deputy Maurice Odhiambo.
Panyako said Chairman John Bii, his deputy and the assistant Chief Trustee Alice Oreng are not mandated to sign any agreements binding the union on the strike matter.
