The Council of Governors has affirmed its support for Nyeri Governor Samuel Wamathai who took oath of office on Monday, following the death of the late governor Nderitu Gachagua.
Speaking on Monday shortly after the swearing in ceremony presided over by Justice Jarius Ngaah, CoG Chair Peter Munya lauded the former Deputy Governor's efforts to unite the county during the absence of governor Gachagua who was ailing at the time.
"Mr Wamathai was able to hold the county together while our brother was ill. Everyone will agree with me that if someone else was holding that office, things would not have ended the way they did," the Daily Nation quoted Munya.
On his part, governor Wamathai pledged to effectively execute his mandate without cold feet.
"I demand total honesty and integrity from everyone working in the county. I will not tolerate acts of corruption and dishonesty," he said.
The late governor Gachagua died on Friday after a 3-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was aged 64.
