Following the ongoing Devolution conference in Kakamega County, a number of Senators and Governors booked accomodation in various hotels in Kisumu.
On Monday evening, the Governors and Senators steamed into the town causeing traffic jams in sections of the city with their fleet of vehicles.
The jam created a standstill in the city especially between Kondele, and the Central Business District.
A sections of residents especially matatu operators noted that they encounteres numerous loses owing to the time wasted in the traffic jam.
Here are some reactions from the residents:
“The Governors and Senators have cost us a lot of our time. For them, they are paid sitting allowance in their meetings, while they cost us money from our hustle by keeping us out of the road for long,” stated Charles Wekesa a Matatu driver.
“They were very rowdy making a lot of unnecessary noise through sirens and hooting and using so many vehicles for no reason. At least 3 governors or Senators would have shared one vehicle instead of all the vehicles we saw yesterday,” noted Francis Awiti.
“The leaders want to show how superior they are by not obeying traffic rules. They pushed us aside with ‘small’ vehicles as they had their way. They are forgetting they are in our county,” said Richard Ochieng.
“They caused a lot of chaos yesterday which we hope no to see again. We want them to either remain in Kakamega or at least minimize the vehicles they use,” said Jerald Onyango.
