With the council of governors set to elect a new chairman on Friday, word is already going around on possible candidates to replace Turkana's Josephat Nanok.

The governors are expected to elect the chair, during the induction in Diani Reef Hotel, Kwale County.

The forum was officially opened today, Thursday, by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kwale’s Salim Mvurya is tipped to take the mantle from Nanok, with reports indicating that Jubilee, which has a majority of governors want to elect one of their own.

The ruling party has 27 out of 47 governors, meaning they will have an easy task replacing the opposition governor.

Former cabinet secretary and current Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is vying for the deputy chair position.

If elected, Mvurya has vowed to ensure there is a good working relationship between the county and the national government, to enhance service delivery.

"I will spearhead development among the governors for the development of our country," Mvurya said as quoted by the Star.

The council will be looking to elect their fourth chair, after former Bomet governor Isaac Rutto, former Meru Governor Peter Munya and now Nanok.

Mvurya was once an ODM lieutenant but ditched the opposition for the Jubilee Party.

He managed to recapture his seat under Jubilee and has been President Kenyatta’s point man in the region since then.
