A majority of the MCAs however took issue with the poor revenue collection and the bloated wage bill which they said has made the county rank poorly in comparison to other counties.

Muhoroni MCA Willis Ogonyo said the county has employed many people whose roles cannot be well defined.

He said the governor’s office has many employees with funny titles and some have even been assigned cars to move around with adding that it was a waste of public funds.

Chemelil MCA Joseph Osano said neighbouring counties like Siaya have improved on revenue collection yet Kisumu which is a city is lagging behind.

Osano said it is evident that the county’s revenue is going into individuals pockets adding that something has to be done.

Nyalenda B MCA James Were congratulated the governor for a good speech but said unless the loopholes in revenue collections will not be sealed then the county will continue suffering.

Kisumu North Ward MCA Caroline Owen on her part decried the high wage bill in the county adding that it’s affecting the allocation of development funds for various projects.

Nominated MCA Lydia Adhiambo however took issues with the governor’s speech saying most of the issues he talked about were lies.

She said the tractors for farmers are nowhere to be seen adding that even the white sorghum the governor said was given to farmers is not representative of the situation on the ground.

The MCAs will continue debating the speech tomorrow.
