Governors will meet on May 23, to declare whether they will support Cord's move to send IEBC commissioners home.
Council of Governors Chairman and Meru Governor Peter Munya said governors will meet to deliberate on the credibility of the commission and its competence in handling 2017 general elections.
Mr Munya spoke as he addressed the media on Sunday.
“Many issues have been raised about the IEBC. As governors, we are concerned about the same issue especially its credibility," he said.
"However, for now, I cannot give an official statement on whether it should be disbanded or not but immediately we sit down as a Council we will."
Munya noted that the IEBC needs to give confidence and satisfy Kenyans before the next elections.
"We should not reach the next elections without proving the commission meets the satisfaction of everyone. If we prove, then we can call for its disbandment because I am also going to vie and I cannot sit and witness being robbed off my votes by an incompetent commission,” Mr Munya said.
This comes after calls by the opposition and the National Council of Churches (NCCK) to disband the Commission.
They stated that they cannot be trusted to carry oversee next year's elections in a fair and transparent manner.
Munya stressed the need for dialogue between the government and the opposition to deliberate on the issue.
“My opinion is that the government and the opposition should have dialogue over the issue because even as governors, we are going to discuss the credibility and the competence of the commission,” he said.
