Governors now want the treatment and management of cancer to remain with the counties and have expressed their objections to taking the function to the national government. They have strongly contented that cancer management is a county function since the constitution envisaged the devolution of health. This comes in the wake of reports that the government intends to revert cancer issues to the Ministry of Health.''In our discussions, we resolved that the reversal that the reversal will be a disservice to Kenyans for it will mean a patient in Garissa will have to travel to Nairobi to access cancer treatment.'' The Council Governors has said in a public statement.Statistics show that cancer is the third leading cause of death in Kenya. The governors say they have what it takes to deal with cancer issues and what they need to discharge that function well is enough funding.
